4 Ways To Include Self Care Into Your Busy Lifestyle

It seems like everyone is busy rushing around these days and not taking a breather to take proper care of themselves.

One moment you're dashing out of bed to get the ready for the morning, and the next you're on the commute to work, trying desperately to remember the legion of tasks you have to complete during your time at work and beyond.

You might have a busy social life too, with friends and family members to catch up with on a fairly regular basis. And you might busy yourself with other things during the week, be that your household chores, your garden maintenance, and any hobbies or group meetings that you regularly partake in.

And while there is nothing wrong with a busy lifestyle per se, you do need to be mindful. If you rarely stop and catch your breath (figuratively and literally), you will start to feel the consequences of a busy lifestyle within your health. Feelings of stress and anxiety might become a norm, and you might fall prey to the ensuing side-effects, such as high blood pressure, exhaustion, and depression.

So, finding ways to include self-care into your busy lifestyle is a must.

These suggestions might be useful to you.

#1: Make time for yourself in the morning

Establish a morning regimen before your busy day begins.

Take the time to eat a healthy breakfast, because this is infinitely better than grabbing a cookie from the jar when you're rushing out of your front door.

You should then take some time out to exercise, be that with a walk or a run around the block, or even by exercising in your living room by doing some yoga or stretching. These home exercise ideas might prove useful.

Then spend some time in thought and reflection in your meditation space. This will give you time to find some semblance of inner peace and will provide your body and mind with the much-needed rest required before your day's activities begin.

By taking these steps, you will start the day the right way. Rather than feeling rushed and stressed, you should feel calmer and better prepared for whatever it is you will be busying yourself with throughout the day.

#2: Schedule time for yourself

No matter what else you have going on during the week, find places on your calendar for me-time, and put a large red ring around the times you have chosen.

And if you can't find time for yourself? Maybe you simply have too much going on?

Then remember that your health matters first and foremost. There are bound to be things within your schedule that hold less priority in your life, so ask yourself:

Do I really need to attend every meeting I have scheduled?

Do I need to attend every social engagement that I have been invited to?

The answer is probably 'no,' so if you need to cross things off your calendar in favour of me-time, then do so. Then be sure to say 'no' to any other activity that might distract you from your personal needs, unless there is a significant reason as to why you might need to move your me-time to another date.

And if you have a family to consider? Set boundaries for yourself if they are in the same house as you, and let them know that you need some time to yourself. Or take time out for yourself when they are involved in after-school activities or otherwise engaged. You might bring in an extended family member to look after them occasionally too.

And when you do have time for yourself, don't busy yourself with housework or with any other types of strenuous activity. Instead, catch up with your Netflix boxsets, pamper yourself at your beauty table, go for a gentle walk, read a book, or do anything else that will give you time to refresh yourself. You will feel better by doing so.

#3: Book your health appointments

When did you last see your doctor? And when did you last see your optician and dentist? You need to make these appointments a priority if your health is suffering in any way, but even if you are feeling fine, you should still see your local health professionals for a check-up. If anything is wrong, they should be able to remedy any health issues you are experiencing.

So, despite your busyness, make the time for these appointments. Arrange for them before or after work, or let your employer know that you might need to take some time out of the workplace.

Of course, if your employer provides occupational healthcare services, you should take advantage of what is on offer. Your boss should encourage you to anyway, but there is nothing wrong with booking an appointment yourself on a fairly regular basis or when you feel it necessary.

#4: Live a healthy lifestyle throughout the day

You can still live a healthy lifestyle despite your busy day, so take the necessary steps to care for your wellbeing.

So, rather than driving or taking the bus to work, you might walk or cycle instead in your lifestyle ensues.

Rather than eating on the go when you're busy at work, take time out to rest, opting for a healthy lunch rather than something from the local fast food joint.

Find other opportunities to exercise throughout the day, perhaps by going for a short walk during your break times and/or taking part in exercises at your desk. You might also visit the gym before you go home or book yourself into a dance or fitness class.

And during the evening, resist the urge to do too much with your time. By adhering to one of our previous points, you might have scheduled time for yourself already. But even if you do have family and friends to consider, try to find relaxing things to do with them, instead of busying yourself with activities that could tire you out.

Finally, remember to go to bed at a reasonable time. A good night's sleep has many health benefits, on both a physical and a mental level, so get your shut-eye, as you will then be able to return to the first point on this list when you wake in the morning.

4 Ways To Live A More Relaxed Lifestyle

There are probably many people that you meet that are either a) too busy or b) too stressed. More than likely a combination of both. Often our lifestyles are made to be hectic. We work the majority of the day, even if we are freelancers or small business owners. And the rest of the time is spent looking after the family, running errands, finishing work that you had to take home, trying to see people and on it goes.

It is a lot by any measure.

The focus has shifted on being as busy as you can for as long as possible to try to find a work-life balance that makes you feel good and avoiding building stress levels. Trying to live more relaxed is better for you and your family in the long run. Stressed out people often have mood swings, can be tired and may go on to develop depression or anxiety. Negativity can quickly become overwhelming. So here are some tips to help you relax your lifestyle and inject some calm - quickly.

Remove

It is time to start saying no to the things that you feel like you can’t do, or that you know will bring you a lot of stress. We find saying yes so easy. Piling on extra work, social commitments, financial commitments, but there is only so much you can do. And if you are saying yes to everything you might just be hitting your breaking point. Learn to say no, remove the things that are a source of stress for you. It might be difficult if the stress is people, but it is better for you in the long run. Start by removing distractions that are taking up your precious time such as social media. Learn to limit things that don’t bring value to your life as well and you will quickly realize how much more time you have to make room for self care.

Therapies

You don’t have to head out and book the first talking therapist you find, but it might pay to investigate some ways that you can learn to relax and unwind. Often they are referred to as alternative therapies and come in the form of things like working with a yoga teacher, an acupuncturist, or a life coach. Book a special spa treatment. Finding different more natural ways of relaxing can be invigorating and exciting as there are so many different options out there that you may not even know about!

Meditation

At first, many people find meditating a little bit boring, or they can’t quite settle. Over time, after it gets built into your daily life, meditation will be something you want to do, not something you feel like you have to. It will teach you ways that you can quiet your mind, which means you can slide intrusive thoughts, and negative thoughts off to the side and replace them with positive ones. Over time this will make a difference to your thought pattern in general. Plus, those ten minutes that you spend will go by in a flash. Headspace is an excellent application for you to start your meditation journey, and Calm is another option. Meditation could also just be free writing and journaling or laying down and listening to some spa music while breathing deeply. Try whatever works for you!

Problem Solving

We, by nature, love to solve problems. But sometimes we see issues where there aren’t any. So sit down and think about what you deem to be your problems. Once they are all written down, see how you can reframe them. For example, is the bus stop moving further away from a bad thing, or is it allowing you to get your daily steps in? You parents flying in for the weekend - problem? Or an opportunity to try that recipe you’ve been waiting to try? We often build issues up to be much bigger, because we aren’t used to more positive thinking.

Relaxing your lifestyle will give you breathing space to get back to the stuff you love, and maybe introduce you to some new hobbies too!

Nobody is Perfect and That’s Okay

Any little girl who grew up reading fairy tales is already forced into a world where perfection appears effortlessly achievable. Snow White, for instance, is so beautiful that her step-mother, the Queen, can’t stand her comparison. The very reason why Snow White’s life is threatened is that she, ultimately, is too perfect. However, as a young girl reading through the book or watching your favorite Disney’s rendition, your first reaction is to be scared on behalf of Snow White and to want her to win in the end. As an adult, however, you might find growing in yourself a sense of understanding for the Evil Queen who cannot, despite her best efforts and all her magical skills, achieve perfection. Perfection is, as far as we know, not of this world. However, we still crave for it, unable to accept and cherish our imperfection. It’s time to silence the Evil Queen in each of us.

Stop worrying about what others think of you

The very first thing you need to do to fight off your Evil Queen is to focus on yourself without stopping to consider what others think or do. Indeed, the source of pain for the Evil Queen is to compare herself against others, as she asks her magical mirror who is the most beautiful women in the kingdom. Don’t follow her footsteps. Comparing yourself to others is no real measurement of your uniqueness and worth. We are naturally biased to find the grass greener on the other side, but it’s not always an accurate feeling. Following your path creates a unique route that is beyond comparison. It’s all about you, and if you wish to compare, you should compare to your past self.

What if this is causing internal turmoil?

Unfortunately, in your quest to perfection, pain can come from a variety of places. For the Evil Queen, ignoring comparison wouldn’t have been sufficient to maintain her happiness. Indeed, the Queen is all of us when she actively seeks reassurance from her mirror. Am I truly the most beautiful beyond comparison? It’s the question she would ask today. Bluesky Psychology experts fear that the Queen’s excessive need for comparison reveals a tragic lack of self-worth. Indeed, if you have no sense of how well you’re doing until you can compare yourself to others, working with a therapist could help you to break free and work with you if you are dealing with these types of things.

Therapy does not work for everyone so if you are dealing with lack of self worth or more such as anxiety, depression or something else of the sort please seek out medical help you are not alone.

Understanding the difference between not good enough and self-improvement

Wanting to get better is healthier than attempting to eliminate all competition like the Evil Queen does. However, while the path to self-improvement is about acquiring new skills with the help of a mentor or a partner who makes you accountable, it’s also a path to achieve a goal. Whether you want to fit in your bridal gown or become a better manager, defining success begins with your objective. Self-improvement is not a path toward self-acceptance. If you don’t love yourself at the beginning of the journey, you’re likely to find flaws at the end.

The Evil Queen lives in each of us. She compares herself constantly to others. She is obsessed about it and finds no way out but destruction to achieve her goals. While nobody goes to such extents, there’s no denying that the quest for perfection leaves us just as damaged and vulnerable. It’s time to make peace with our imperfect self. The Queen can finally relax in the knowledge that Snow White is too perfect to be real.

And we all are imperfect happily after.

Love who you are and water your own grass!
